Cruisers Corner February 2019

Wow what a month January was.  The membership at Augusta Sailing Club sure entered the new year with lots of enthusiasm and energy.  Starting off with a fire side New Years Eve celebration, followed by a bloody marry contest before the hangover regatta the next morning.   I am told that the fog on the water made for an amazing sail and the pictures were pretty cool too.  But the New Years day shenanigans did not end there.  Club member took advantage of the mild New Years temps and braved the cold waters taking the clubs first ever polar plunge.  Hats off to those who participated.   Not to be outdone, the oyster roast was, as always very well attended and if you left hungry that was your own fault.  Then there was the return of the soup and sip.  More than 20 different soups were sampled.  They were all wonderful.  After eating our fill Marje and Debra led us through a fun and inspiring craft - we made note cards personalized with our very own art.

Now I know your all thinking this is a sailing club where is the sailing........ Well the land activities were not the only non-racing activities.  Several boats were spotted out taking advantage of the winds when available.  Jeff Heart ventured from cruising to racing - great job!

Phillip Peavler was out cruising and taking advantage of some good winds.  I even saw some sunfish out a few times.  Bob and Margaret Centers were out sharing their love of sailing with visiting family and friends.  I know several others were out too but I’m afraid I don’t always know who is on what boat by site.  If it was you I would as always love to hear about your adventures so I can include details for others to enjoy.

With winter nearing its end here in the south I hope that we will see more people out enjoying the lake as much as we do.  I also hope to see you at the international food and craft beer (and wine) night coming up on February 16th at 6:00 PM

 Until then happy cruising.
