Safe Powerboat Handling Course at Augusta 

Sailing Club — Start Powerboating Right!

This fun and informative two-day, hands-on, on-the-water certification course is for anyone who wants to learn how to safely operate a powerboat and/or improve their boat-handling skills. No previous experience is required.  The U.S. Coast Guard and the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) have approved this U.S. Sailing / U.S. Powerboating course. In addition to hands-on, on-the-water training, this two-day course includes a textbook, 6-8 hours of classroom instruction covering required topics, and a 50-question multiple choice exam.

 On-the-Water Sessions - Engine & electrical systems; starting procedures; docking; leaving & returning to a slip; close-quarters maneuvers; anchoring; steering a range; proceeding to a destination; and person-in-the-water rescue.

 Classroom Sessions - Safety, preparation & weather; maneuvering concepts; registration & capacities; equipment requirements; preparation & fueling procedures; navigation rules of the road; aids to navigation; and environmental regulations.

 Cost - $180 ($150 for ASC members) per adult; $150 for ages 16-17. A $40 (non-refundable) deposit is required to reserve a seat and order course materials.  Course materials will be mailed upon receipt of deposit or full payment.
