Sail Camp 2019 registration is  open.

 

ONLINE REGISTRATION (link at bottom of page) MUST BE COMPLETED AND RECEIVED ALONG WITH CONSENT/WAIVER FORM AND PAYMENT IN ORDER TO SECURE RESERVATIONS. SESSION AVAILABILITY WILL BE DETERMINED BY CAMP ADMINISTRATION, SCHEDULING, AND RECEIPT DATE.

2019 Camp Specifics- Full day camp

ADVENTURE SAILING- for beginner and up sailors

Hours: 9 am-5 pm

Session Duration: 1 Week

Session Dates: June 3-7, June 10-14, June 17-21, June 24-28

Ages: 8-17


Description:

The "Adventure Camp" is designed to get your child engaged in sailing and feeling comfortable on the water. It will teach them the basics of water safety and sailing. We are excited to offer a class that provides first-time sailors (or returning sailors) a chance to get their feet wet in a fun and relaxed atmosphere! Students will learn the basics of knot tying, parts of the boat, water safety, and sail rigging. In addition to the basics, they will experience the thrill of actually sailing a Sunfish or JY15! 

This camp is a prerequisite for the half-day sessions.

 

  • Registration(s) limited to approximately 12 sailors per session – register early due to limited space!
  • Each student must complete a swim test on the first day of class.
  • Medical Consent and Waiver Form are required to be completed as part of the registration process. All forms must be completed before start of camp session.
  • Pricing: (full day)
$300  (after 4/1/19 add an additional $25)
  • 10% discount for ASC members
  • 5% discount if registering for multiple camps
  • Refund is available, minus a $25 nonrefundable cancellation charge until 14 days prior to start of registered camp session 

2019 Camp Specifics- Half Day Camps 
(previous sail camp experience required) 

BEGINNER/INTERMEDIATE C420 
Hours: 9 am-1 pm 
Session Duration: 1 week 
Sessions: June 10-14 (Beginner), June 17-21 (Intermediate) 
Ages: 11+ (8 per session) 

Description:

This camp is for sailors who have taken a course through the Augusta Sailing Club and wish to continue their education. Students enrolled in this course are expected to have one to two summer experiences but not necessarily in C420s.They must be willing to work with one other person and learn the basics of a boat requiring a 2-person crew! Sailors will learn water safety, boat controls, basic sailing maneuvers, basic seamanship, wind direction, introduction to symmetrical spinnaker, and sailing a course. Sailors enrolled in this course should have a desire to learn and be competent swimmers. Those registering for the Intermediate C420 camp must have already take the Beginner C420 camp or get approval from the Junior Chair.



BEGINNER BIC
Hours: 1 pm-5 pm 
Session Duration: 1 week 
Session Dates: June 10-14 
Ages: 8+ (7 per session)

Description:

This course is for sailors who have taken a course through the Augusta Sailing Club and wish to continue their education. Students will learn through classroom and on-the-water activities in the BIC sailboat. They will improve skills in water safety, boat controls, basic sailing maneuvers, basic seamanship, wind direction, and sailing a course. Sailors enrolled in this course should have a desire to learn and be competent swimmers.

INTERMEDIATE BIC 
Hours: 1 pm-5 pm 
Session Duration: 1 week
Session Dates: June 17-21
Ages: 8+ (7 per session)


Description:

This course is for those already comfortable sailing an Open BIC or who have previously taken the Beginner BIC camp. This session will continue to develop the knowledge and understanding of the BIC. Sailors who enroll in this course are expected to know the basics of boat safety, boat handling, and basic maneuvers. The goal is to improve tacks, gibes, and sail trimming. Sailors enrolled in this course should have a desire to learn and be competent swimmers.




DOUBLE-HAND RACE TEAM 
Hours: 9 am-1 pm 
Session Duration: 1 week 
Session Dates: June 3-7 
Ages: 13-17 (8 per session)

Description:

Sailors enrolled in this course should have a good understanding of C420 boat handling. They will learn tactics, strategy, and sheet management. In addition, they will learn how to use trapeze and spinnakers. At the start of the summer there will be a calendar released with regattas and clinics. Sailors in this class are encouraged to attend clinics and regattas. This session may include personally owned JY15, C15, or C420. All students must have approval from the Junior Chair to enroll in this course.

 


SINGLE-HAND RACE TEAM 
Hours: 1 pm- 5 pm 
Session Duration: 1 week 
Session Dates: June 3-7 
Ages: 10-17 (8 per session)

Description:
This is the final class for the BICs. The course will take an advanced look at tactics, strategy, and fleet management. It will also teach sailors advanced boat handling skills. At the start of the summer there will be a calendar released with regattas and clinics. Sailors in this class are encouraged to attend clinics and regattas. This session can include personally owned boats, for example, Sunfish or Laser. All students must have approval from the Junior Chair to enroll in this course.

 

Half Day Camps

Additional weeks may be added based on demand.

Instructors

Our instructors are certified by US Sailing and supported by club volunteers. Our instructors' primary concern is the safety of our campers. Their goal is for everyone to enjoy their time on the water in a safe and positive environment.


Camper Equipment to bring to camp each day:  

  • Life Jacket
  • Hat
  • Sunscreen
  • Towel
  • Water shoes (NO FLIP FLOPS)
  • Change of clothes
  • Water bottle to take on boat
  • Lunch each day
  • Student should wear their bathing suit, as we will be in the water each day.
  • You will receive the week's gate code at check-in on Monday morning.
