2013 Golden Rock Regatta

posted Dec 12, 2012, 6:28 PM by AUGUSTA SAILINGCLUB   [ updated May 21, 2013, 4:08 PM ]

I recently returned from my 2nd participation in the 2012 Golden Rock Regatta, held out of St. Marteen in
the Caribbean. This year’s regatta consisted of 13 cruising yachts measuring from 44-51.5. I was again
on Sailing Magazine’s boat captained by Olympic medalist and America’s Cup women’s team member
Annie Gardner Nelson. We had tremendous success, finishing with 5 1st place trophies. The event
consist of 4 long distance races and 1 day of windward- leeward racing. Supporting the tourism industry
of the small island of Statia (St. Eustatiaus), the Golden Rock Regatta is organized and run by Windward
Adventures out of Holland by Juul Hemstad, of the Heineken Regatta fame. The regatta is a week of
great sailing and extreme camaraderie of sailors from Holland, America and the Caribbean with dinners
and parties and festivals included. I encourage the members of the Augusta Sailing club to get a crew of
8-10 people and enter a boat either 2013 or 2014. You will not be sorry.
