Charleston Yacht Club Open Regatta

Our regatta is the July 19-21 weekend.

We Would Like You To Come Join Us

We have a couple of changes to the Charleston Yacht Club Open Regatta which may interest you – one for the kids and one for grownups.

To encourage the young folks to participate in the SAYRA Youth Championships, we have made arrangements with the College of Charleston and with Charleston Community Sailing to use their 420’s in our regatta.  If you are from out of town (places like Augusta, Columbia, Charlotte, Savannah, Wilmington and the like) our thought was it might be easier to decide to come if you did not have to bring your own boat and find places to launch and store them.  We are asking club officials to help get this message out to the appropriate potential racers.

While these boats do have a reasonable rental fee, we have raised money from club members to make it easier for you by having us pay the boat rental charge.  The priority for using those funds is youth who qualify for SAYRA’s championship ( 420 Skipper and crew cannot be age 19 on or before 12/31/2013). Next priority is folks from out of town and anyone in town that does not have a boat to race in.  We anticipate having Youth 420s race separately from Adult 420s if needed.  If you would like to use one of these 420s, please email John Watkins at jbwfive@comcast.net or JR at office@charlestonyachtclub.com  and we will help with the arrangements.

The other change this year is that we are a Qualifying Event for Area D for entry to the Adult National Championship in Rochester NY in August.  It is being raced in J-24’s and we would like everyone to come join in the event.  The winner of this event wins a free entry into the Nationals, and the Helen Handley Fund has routinely provided financial support for SAYRA club competitors travel to national competitions.  Each competitor brings his own J-24.  The NOR for this is online at http://www.charlestonyachtclub.com/tinymce/jscripts/tiny_mce/plugins/filemanager/files/2013_ChYC_Open_Regatta_Notice_of_Race_.pdf and at http://www.charlestonyachtclub.com/tinymce/jscripts/tiny_mce/plugins/filemanager/files/Addendum_1_to_2013_NORv1.pdf  We anticipate that we will have sufficient funds to help defray some of the cost of storage in the City Marina parking lot which is in front of our club, and our club hoist handles numerous J-24s.
