Katy Perrin, daughter of Ed and Brenda Durant was the recipient of the "Charleston Yacht Club Women's Award" on Sunday July 18th during the club's regatta Award Ceremony. Each year the past recipients gather to choose a Charleston female sailor who exhibits some skill in competitive sailing with character and sportsmanship on and off the water.

Katy joins a long list of woman sailors who race competitively and work, off the water to advance sailing. Katy grew up at the Augusta Sailing Club, taking junior classes and racing with her father. she started taking classes at the Charleston Yacht Club in the 90's later teaching sailing in Augusta and Charleston.

Currently Katy and Dan are a members of the James Island Yacht Club actively involved in  racing, and race committee work. Katy acts as area chairman of the e-scow fleet and is active in SAYRA.  Many friends and family gathered at the ceremony to support katy, of course, Ed and Brenda Durant, Presenter: Lyn Swan, Husband: Dan Perrin, friends: Sarah Ashton, Jane Beasley and former ASC member Chuck Rushing.

It's so great to see a member of our lake community grow into an award winning sailor. Katy works hard to promote the sport of sailing and volunteers on and off the water to ensure a strong community will carry on the tradition. Katy will keep the  beautiful trophy until the next awards next year will receive a smaller 'keeper' trophy.
