New Dock Authourty posts

The Dock Authority wishes to thank everyone for their cooperation in 2017 with getting us your insurance renewal information. It is important  for everyone to understand this is an annual chore, and a requirement of your lease. We are building a database to house all of the member demographics, and the DA manages the boat insurance component. So, please be patient if we make errors in data entry or misplace your email.

Please remit your renewals to insurance@augustasailingclub.org, or if you don’t have scan/email capability, to the club mailing address. NOTE: $100,000 liability is minimum requirement, with ASC being listed as additional insured.

F Dock- We are currently in the process of reviewing design options for the replacement of F dock in 2018. We are acutely aware of the bashing Harden’s Cove took during TS Irma, so options for wave attenuation are being considered in the process. We would appreciate the opportunity to discuss this with interested members, so please contact board members or DA members for more info. (we are all listed under “governance” on the website) http://www.augustasailingclub.org/home/club-officers

Moorings- We are doing some reorganization of the mooring field, removing the moorings east of the courtesy dock, as they sometimes present obstacles to launch and retrieval of the large board boats. We have additional anchors on hand to add more moorings as needed.

Safety- We have an issue of shore power cords falling into the water, and being a trip hazard on the walkways. We are asking all boat owners who use shore power to dress your power cord under the finger and bungee it to your boat. Those not complaint with this request will have it done by the DA with charges to be determined.

Seaworthy- The slip lease requires owners keep their boats in good working order, seaworthy if you will, and that includes REGISTRATION. Dock Captains have noted in their inspections that a number of boats have expired registration. Please keep your vessel up to date and operational. We have a few boast approaching “derelict” status, which reflects poorly on the owner, and poorly on the Dock Authority for not enforcing our own rules requiring boats to be maintained in a seaworthy fashion. Please help me avoid what will be an uncomfortable conversation for both of us, if your boat is in poor shape.

Volunteer credit- I’ve noted that many members ended the year without their full volunteer credit hours, which will result in them getting billed. For those handy with tools and don’t mind doing some labor, the Dock Authority typically has some odds and ends you can do to pick up a few hours. Please contact me, tmyarb3@gmail.com, if you want to pick up some extra hours. Winter and Spring is a good time before it gets hot.

Required Insurance on boats on Slips and Moorings

posted May 5, 2016, 1:52 PM by AUGUSTA SAILINGCLUB   [ updated Dec 6, 2016, 11:48 AM ]

Members keeping a boat on one of our Slips or Moorings must have and demonstrate
an  active Liability insurance policy covering their boat

This is one of the requirements in our lease. is that if you have a boat on a mooring ball or in a slip you MUST be insured and name the Augusta Sailing Club as an additional insured. We are currently  trying to get this information updated from everyone.. If you have not done this in 2016, please contact your insurance agent and have them send a declarations page showing the ASC as an additional insured via e-mail to insurance@augustasailingclub.org  or via regular mail to ASC, P.O. Box 1938, Evans, Georgia 30809. Sending it by e-mail would be our preference, but either method will work. Also, please ask your agent to be sure to set this up so when your policy renews a copy is automatically sent to ASC.
If you are leasing your to a  member who is keeping a boat on your slip, you are responsibility to see that the lease-holder  presents his insurance declaration to the club.

Attenuator Project

Dale Demyan has been working on a project to install wave attenuators in the lake to protect our Slips from damaging wave action during storms from the north and east.  In the past we have had boat and dock damage caused by high wind and waves.  The Attenuators would be barriers anchored between the open lake and the slips to afford wave protection.

Attached is a letter from then Commodore Ian Buckley to the U S Army Corps of Engineers: to start the process.

C Dock Cleats Replaced

posted Nov 3, 2015, 10:32 AM by AUGUSTA SAILINGCLUB   [ updated Dec 6, 2016, 11:48 AM ]

FDM has installed new cleats on rebuilt C Dock and tightened the corner cleats.  I think the new cleats should be acceptable by the members.  I have not come to an agreement as to them providing us with replacement dock lines.

E Dock Project Complete

posted Jul 31, 2015, 7:55 AM by AUGUSTA SAILINGCLUB   [ updated Dec 6, 2016, 11:48 AM ]

E dock is now in place.  You can start moving your boats back.  I plan on moving the Club boats over on Friday.  NOTE fingers on the right are 25' long and fingers on the left are 27' long.  This is a good time to upgrade your lines and add your membership =number  to the base of your mast.  The water and electric will be completed in the next couple of days.

Enjoy

Electrical Isolation and Ground Leakage Test of Docks

posted Jun 5, 2013, 7:34 AM by Unknown user   [ updated Dec 6, 2016, 11:48 AM by AUGUSTA SAILINGCLUB ]

Tests were conducted on the electrical isolation and ground leakage of the ASC dock
complex (A-F) on Feb 13-14 and May 9, 2013. All docks showed good isolation of ground from feed
and return lines. All slips with boats connected to shore power demonstrated good isolation from
environmental ground and integrity of the electrical feed and ground lines. DC and AC environmental
probe measurements in water in all slips and entries to dock showed no current leaks from dock to
water. Read the full report and see the test data on the attached files.

Thanks to Member Doug Morris for is efforts and expertise and thanks to the Dock Authority led by Harbormaster Bobby Joiner.
Please direct comments or questions to Mr. Morris.
